Commercial Credit Corporation New York, New York Architect: Skidmore Owings & Merrill Commercial Credit Corporation occupies the top two floors of a NYC skyscraper. The upper (executive) floor has extremely high-end finishes and furnishings. The 3’ wide X 11’ high panels in the reception area were faced with Japanese maple burl veneer. Note the use of wall washers to evenly illuminate these panels.Private offices on the executive floor open to an enclosed walkway that surrounds the building. Note that some of the recessed light fixtures are “downlight/wall washers”. As such, they not only light the desk surfaces below. They also evenly wash the back wall, thereby avoiding distracting scallops that would have been created by using normal recessed downlights. The lower floor houses accounting and administrative staff. Note that the niches at the side walls are evenly illuminated, creating a very comfortable and visually pleasing environment for these employees. Vertical surface lighting is often overlooked in many spaces.Beyond the private offices is an enclosed walkway. That’s a very unique feature for a building in midtown Manhattan. It is obviously a major perk for any executives who spend their day in the hustle and bustle of New York City.
